Mission- The Wounded Heroes Fund is a service organization for Kern County Veterans and their families, dedicated to facilitating healthy transitions through community, support, and appreciation.
CORE VALUES
Integrity, Personal Fortitude, Professionalism, Respect for All, and Commitment to Community.
HISTORY OF WHF
In early 2009, Mike and Wendy Porter invited a handful of close friends to dinner. There, around the dining room table, Mike and Wendy shared the idea of helping out a local Veteran and his Family. The group of friends would put on a one time dinner and concert to raise funds and donate them. The event was called Salute to Our Local Heroes. This was to be a one time event, but fast forward and Wounded Heroes Fund is one of the most successful non-profit organizations in Kern County. Wendy, the daughter of a Vietnam Veteran, grew up knowing what it was like to have zero support for her father and her family. Mike, Wendy, their friends, and the community realized there was a huge gap that needed to be filled, in order to help young veteran families transition to life in the civilian world.
